Linda Carter
Linda Carter, soprano, has performed on both the east and west coasts. A native of
Philadelphia, she received her Bachelor of Music degree from Westminster Choir College in Princeton, N .J . She made her
professional debut in Spoleto, Italy as Chloe in Tchaikovsky's opera The Queen of Spades when she was called upon to
replace an ill soprano. While living in the East she was an active recita1ist in art and sacred song, opera, and as an oratorio
soloist in works including the Poulenc Gloria, Handel's Messiah, and numerous- Bach cantatas.
Since relocating to central California, Mrs. Carter has been a featured soloist with
the Modesto Symphony in the Mozart Requiem, Mendelssohn's
Elijah and the Vivaldi Gloria, the Modesto Junior College
Orchestra in Bach's Wedding Cantata # 202, the Masterworks
Chorus in Schubert's Mass in A flat and the Bach
Magnificat as well as Opera roles with the MJC Opera Theater
and the Modesto Performing Arts Association. With the Columbia
College Community Chorus she has been soprano soloist in
Schuhert's Mass in G, Mozart's Mass in F, the Haydn
Lord Nelson Mass and Vivaldi's Chamber Mass. In June of
1999 she sang the soprano solos in The Creation by Haydn
with a consortium of Modesto area choirs and orchestra.
Mrs. Carter has given numerous
solo and duet recitals with her husband tenor John Carter . She
performs regularly with the Sonora Bach Festival, the St. James
Concert Series, and the Sonora Opera Guild. Her awards include the
Thompson Scholar Award for vocal and academic excellence, second
place in the Northern California V.O.C.E.
competition
and third place in the Metropolitan Opera District Auditions.
